Queen’s University
James H Stitt Prize in Poetry
“Founded by the late James H. Stitt, Q.C. Open to all undergraduate students, including those in the graduating year. Competitive poems must be submitted to the Associate University Registrar (Financial Aid and Awards) by 1 February. To apply please submit an Awards with Separate Application form.”
The McIlquham Foundation Prize in English
“Founded by the parents of Mr. J. Max McIlquham, a student at Queen’s University 1912-1915, who was killed on service overseas. Awarded to a student for an original poem, short story, or play. Competitive papers must be submitted to the Associate University Registrar (Financial Aid and Awards) by February 1st. Each paper must bear a motto instead of the author’s name and contain a signed declaration that it is the author’s unaided composition. To apply please submit an Awards with Separate Application form.”
McGill University
William Weintraub Prize
“Established in 2018 by Joanna Riesman and Diane Riesman in memory of William and Magda Weintraub. William Weintraub was a McGill graduate and renowned Montreal journalist, author, and filmmaker. Awarded by the Quebec Studies Program in the Faculty of Arts to one undergraduate student exploring the politics and culture of Quebec and Montreal through a research paper, piece of creative writing, graphic novel, poem, audio or video podcast, narrative or documentary short film or other format. Students will be selected through a competitive application process.”

Chester Macnaghten Prizes in Creative Writing
“The Chester Macnaghten Prizes in Creative Writing, two prizes, one of estimated value $600, one of estimated value $300, are open to undergraduate students of the University for the best piece of creative writing in English, i.e. a story, a play, a poem, an essay, etc.”

UofT Mississauga – The Harold Sonny Ladoo Prize for Creative Writing
“Awarded to a UTM student, either full-time or part-time, in memory of Harold Sonny Ladoo who published his first novel in 1972 whilst an undergraduate at Erindale College and whose promising writing career was tragically cut short by his early death in 1973. Competitors may submit one or more of the following: i) a long poem or a group of short poems; ii) a short story or a group of short stories; iii) a novel or the scheme of a novel accompanied by approximately 15,000 words of the novel itself; iv) a play. No previously published composition will be accepted.”

Adele Wiseman Poetry Award
“The Adele Wiseman Poetry Prize will be awarded annually at the end of the academic year to a student who has participated in one of the undergraduate creative writing classes during that year. Each instructor may submit poems (one per student) to the Department Head. A committee to be named by the Head will determine the winner, choosing the poem which seems to be the most promising. Assigned. No application required.”

“Awarded to students with superior academic achievement in any year of a Bachelor of Arts in English. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated excellence in writing original poetry.

Darren Zenko Memorial Prize in Creative Writing
“Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing who have completed WRITE course(s) in fiction, creative non-fiction, or poetry with superior academic achievement in these course(s). Selection based on quality of work demonstrated in WRITE course(s), and demonstrated potential to excel in the Emerging Writers Intensive Program at Banff Centre or another similar program. Part-time and full-time students are eligible.

Mr. & Mrs. ONG Hoo Hong Emerging Writers Prize
“This prize will be given to students who have an interest or declared major in English at The University of Winnipeg. Candidates must submit an example of their creative writing such as poetry, prose, or a combination (10-12 pages), and an essay about their current writing experience and plans for their writing goals (no more than 1,200 words). The purpose of this prize is to encourage talented creative writing students to pursue their passion for writing. This prize can be received multiple times by an individual; first year students are eligible. Recipients must have a 2.60 cumulative grade point average or higher.”

Writers Circle Prize for Original English Fiction, Drama or Poetry
“Candidates must be registered in at least one credit course at The University of Winnipeg during the session in which an item is submitted. Work which has been awarded a prize in another competition is not eligible. Items must be submitted to the Chair of the English Department by the second Monday of April and must be accompanied by a separate sheet of paper on which the writer’s name, address and current registration are given.”
